Why Social Networking Sites are So PopularHow Social Networking Benefits Affiliate Marketing?

Do you use the internet on a regular basis? If you do, there is a good chance that you have heard of websites like MySpace, FriendFinder, Classmates, or Yahoo! 360. What do all of these websites have in common? They are known as social networking websites. Social networking websites, over the past few years, have rapidly increased in popularity, so much that many are wondering why.

If you have used a social networking website before, it is likely that you are already fully aware of their popularity and the reason for popularity. There is just something about these websites that draw in millions of internet users. With a wide variety of different social networking websites available, there are a wide variety of different reasons for their popularity. One those reasons being the ease of use.

Social networking Websites are, for the most part, easy to use. Most sites are easy to navigate. In fact, many require little knowledge of the internet. In addition to being easy to navigate, social networking websites also make it easier to meet new people online. There are many internet users who would love to make new friends online; however, that can sometimes be difficult do. Without social networking websites, you would have to connect with internet users, often in chat rooms, and learn about their interests before deciding if you would like to consider them your “buddy.” Social networking sites allow you to learn information about another internet user before ever having to make contact with them.

One Of The Many Reasons Why Social Networking Sites Are Popular

Another one of the many reasons why social networking sites are popular is because many are free to use. In fact, the majority of social networking sites, such as MySpace and Yahoo! 360, are free to use. Despite being free to use, many websites require that you register with them. This registration will not only allow you to create your own profile or online webpage, but it will also allow you to contact other networking members.

Although most social networking websites are free to use, there are some that are not. Classmates is one of those websites. Many of these websites give you a free trial period or a free membership. That membership can be used to help you determine whether the website is worth paying for. What is nice about paid online social networking websites is that many can be considered exclusive.

Since most internet users would not want to pay for something that they can get for free, most paid social networking sites are limited on the number of members they have. This may work out to your advantage because it tends to eliminate those who create fake accounts or aim to cause controversy online.

Social networking websites are also popular because they come in a wide variety of different formats. Websites like Yahoo! 360 and MySpace focus on a wide variety of different topics. This means that just about anyone can join. However, there are other social networking sites out there that have a particular focus. These focuses may be on a particular religion, political following, or hobby. Most specialty social networking sites restrict the individuals that can participate in their network; thus, making your experience more enjoyable.

Social networking websites focus on meeting new people, especially online, but over recent months, many have started including additional features only available to their online members. Many social networking members can receive their own free webpage, get free access to popular music videos, a free blog, and much more. Although social networking websites are popular enough to bring in members on their own, these additional features are, in a way, providing internet users with an incentive to join.

Mentioned above were a few of the most popular social networks that could be found online. Those networks included MySpace, Yahoo! 360, etc. If you are looking for additional social networking websites, you should easily be able to find some by performing a standard internet search.

I joined partly because I wanted to see what they were, but more importantly to see what impact social networking would have on SEM in the coming years. I’ve been a member of various services for some time and the reach these sites have is incredible. For example, from my LinkedIn network of ten people I have an expanded network of over 8000 people. Through my connections and their connections, I’m connected to people ranging from planet Mars to planet Earth

But what marketing opportunities are there for Social Networking?

Well, let’s look at MySpace. How Social Networking Benefits Affiliate Marketing?

MySpace is one of the top sites on the Web today. From 2005 to 2009, it was the largest social networking site in the world, reaching more than 100 million users per month and new users are signing up at a mind-boggling rate of 3.5 million a month.

In 2015 MySpace still had 50.6 million unique monthly visitors. As of January 2018, MySpace was ranked 4,153 by total Web traffic, and 1,657 in the United States alone. MySpace has had a significant influence on technology, pop culture and music.

MySpace is typical of where today’s 18-30 year old goes to manage their digital life. It allows users to post photos of themselves and their friends, create a blog, list their favorite bands, view and share videos, suggest things to do and lists a set of people they consider friends. It is on this “Friends List” where most of the opportunities lie.

All thirty million plus users of MySpace have a friend’s page that lists people that person considers their friend. This is a list of people that they are interested in talking to and about, as well as hearing from on a regular basis. Once you add someone as your friend they can send you emails, comment on your photos, read your blogs, as well as leave messages that you can then share with others. This is an opportunity for instant feedback about you. The ability to add friends to your page is key for marketing to MySpace users.

You Can See How This Could Grow?

Let’s say you create a MySpace account to talk about your product or service. You blog about it and search for others that may share your interests. You then invite them to be your friend. As they become a friend you start your “soft sell” pitching your product to them. As they grow to appreciate it, they start blogging and sharing it. Soon hundreds or even thousand of people are talking about you and your product or service.

Sound A little Impossible? Check here!

Let me give you some examples. There are many bands who have gotten their start on MySpace. Simply by hosting some of their music online and blogging about themselves they developed a following. Soon they had record deals and contracts lined up. Of course to use services like MySpace you need to have something this target market needs. If you don’t then you probably shouldn’t put too much effort into MySpace.

But that doesn’t mean other social networking opportunities should be overlooked. As I mentioned above, LinkedIn is more of a professional introduction service. If your product or service fits here then by all means explore it further. And there are others as well. Services such as Yahoo!s MyWeb, Flickr, http://del.icio.us and so much more

Conclusion

I’ve been never a big fan of social media/networking sites, but since I’ve been working online I’ve joined a few of those sites and boy oh boy it has been helping with real organic traffic and in some cases better than paid. it’s all about building trust and I was able to do so in many ways, as I stated this can be real beneficial to your business.

Create all your profiles with you website links, don’t place your links in post, most of these site don’t rank when you’re posting links to take others of the site, their whole aim is to keep you browsing their site even if is all day. So if you’ve ever wondered what other online opportunities could be out there, consider social networking. It could be the next great online marketing channel.

  1. Many thanks to me for an informative article discussing how social networking can help with affiliate marketing. People who work online must maintain a social network, otherwise, it will not bring good results for their business growth. And one such platform is MySpace social networking site where millions of people are connected and those who do affiliate marketing can further establish affiliate business through them. Lastly I would like to say that I enjoyed reading your article so I would like to share in my social media group to let people know about social networking sites like myspace if you allow me.

There are so many “scams” on the internet, having this sort of clear explanation is invaluable.  Its astonishing how in recent years, social networking as become so ubiquitous and it has been fascinating to learn that social networking can help marketing.  But how, do you overcome upsetting friends who are in your network.  Those friends who are there for your personal pictures, family etc, rather than marketing?

  7. Hi,

From my online research social media has made it so virtually that anyone can become an affiliate of your brand. Affiliates are no longer required to have a well known blog or celebrity status recognition to successfully promote your products,  these platforms provide affiliates with the tools they need to create content and seamlessly share referral links to their built in audience of followers, one of the reason affiliate marketing works well with social media because it is made for everyone, social media offer a variety of ways to create and post content on their platform and affiliates have the ability to seamlessly share referral links and coupon codes with followers.

    Thank you.

    Aluko.
